PICKED BY VOTE
VOTES FOR HAIM: I asked people to explain their top vote, and we received a few comments about HAIM's I quit.
JOE'S COMMENTS: "HAIM has been circling around RC for years now. It would also be funny if the final album of the summer was called 'I quit.' It would just feel thematically relevant."
MAEVE'S COMMENTS: "Because I can't stop listening to it!"
ZACH'S COMMENTS: "I have none other than HAIM"
CASEY'S COMMENTS: "Haim bc I already like the single that’s out now and curious to hear more."
LOSING ALBUMS: Swag by Justin Bieber (second place, both in number of votes and number of first-choice votes); Virgin by Lorde; moisturizer by Wet Leg (would've been second place if anyone had given it a first-choice explanation); Let God Sort Em Out by Clipse; For the People by Dropkick Murphys; . by Kesha (yes, the title is just a period).

ARTIST DETAILS
ABOUT: HAIM is comprised of three sisters from L.A. From oldest to youngest: Este Haim (born March 14, 1986), Danielle Haim (born February 16, 1989), and Alana Haim (born December 15, 1991). They formed HAIM in 2007, though, growing up together, they obviously fucked around with music prior to that. Their parents, Moti and Donna Haim, had a cover band called Rockinhaim that the three sisters were also a part of. Danielle was touring guitarist for a while. HAIM reformed and made an honest go at being a full-time band in 2012. They were nominated for Best New Artist at the 2015 Grammys. Alana got snubbed from a deserved Oscar nom for her role in Licorice Pizza. Este makes silly faces.
DISCOGRAPHY: This is HAIM's fourth album, after their 2013 debut Days Are Gone, 2017's Something to Tell You, and the COVID-swallowed Women in Music Pt. III in 2020.

WATCHING SOME SHIT: June 2025 live performance at Primavera Sound
RECORD CLUB CONNECTIONS: On February 9, 2025, the Haim sisters surrounded Taylor Swift like bodyguards as they all watched Swift's boyfriend get fucking annihilated by RC alumni the Philadelphia Eagles on the field (and also RC alumnus Kendrick Lamar performed, though I can't imagine Swift was enjoying herself all that much, the outcome of the game being already determined at that point).
Danielle Haim featured on a Childish Gambino song ("Won't Stop"), played drums on a Brandon Flowers song ("Lonely Town," which is a solo song, not with the Killers), and featured on Bon Iver's SABLE, fABLE, which is the full-album follow-up to the RC EP. HAIM was on a Carly Rae Jepsen song ("Making the Most of the Night"). HAIM remixed a Tame Impala song ("'Cause I'm a Man"). I am very sorry to report that HAIM plays a song on the Trolls World Tour soundtrack, and you can check out the Black Sabbath write-up for all the connections that that entails (R.I.P. Thrash, King of the Hard Rock Trolls \\m// ).
Licorice Pizza stars Alana Haim but features the entire Haim family (including their parents). It's directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who has directed HAIM music videos too, as well as videos for Fiona Apple and Radiohead. Bradley Cooper also stars, and he hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart with Lady Gaga.
HAIM's "Summer Girl" gives a songwriting credit to Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground. This album is not produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, since he and Danielle Haim broke up, but presumably some of the songs are about that breakup; Rechtshaid has produced music for Valencia, Miley Cyrus, Jepsen, the Chicks (on Gaslighter specifically), Hozier (on Wasteland, Baby! specifically), No Doubt, Beyoncé, the Killers (on Imploding the Mirage specifically), and Adele. Buddy Ross, who actually did produce this album (along with Rostam), has worked with many of the same acts, plus Kelly Clarkson (she of the Trolls World Tour fame).
HAIM lost the Best New Artist Grammy to RC alumni Sam Smith. HAIM lost Best Rock Performance Grammy to RC alumna Fiona Apple (for RC song "Shameika"). HAIM lost the Best Album Grammy to RC alumna Taylor Swift's folklore. Technically, HAIM were eligible to win Best Album for their feature on Taylor Swift's evermore, but that album lost to Jon Batiste's We Are, in what was possibly the worst slate of albums in this award category's history (though SOUR was in there too, and as the exception, that shit should've won!!!!).

I quit is the fifth RC album whose title is an "I statement," after I Can See Clearly Now, I Am Easy to Find, I Don't Live Here Anymore, and I Feel Alright.
MENTIONS ON THE BLOG: Per PoYB, HAIM had the best song of 2013 and the eighth-best album of 2013 (retroactively bumped up to #6 in 2023). They also had the sixteenth-best song of 2017. They also had the fifth-best album of 2020. HAIM was the lynchpin of an RC review from this club's very first week. Joe corrects Dranders' pronunciation in a 2019 interview about There Will Be Blood. PoYB's Women in Music Pt. III review. Obama chooses "The Steps" for his dumb playlist. HAIM was on a Hanukkah music compilation. HAIM songs have appeared on three Monday Morning Mixtapes (009, 013, and 033). Zach chose a song from this album as his Song of the Day. Two HAIM songs were chosen for Yearlong Song Challenge (Joe and Sara). I don't know when the all-caps "HAIM" became officially, but there are a lot of mentions of this band in this blog's history, and at least half of them are written as "Haim," and I don't currently have the energy to go back and fix them all.

SHADOW RECORD CLUB: Each week, we're exploring the genres of last week's album. If there is a genre that has a #1-rated album that I've never heard before, I'll download it. If not, I'll just give you my best recommendation. Last week's Shaq Diesel was a boom bap album. We're listening this week to Illmatic by Nas. I've heard it before.
NEXT WEEK'S RC ALBUM: In case you need some extra time with an album to write a review for it, you can get a head start on Dreams of Being Dust by the World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die!
