I will be writing the same intro for each of the four weeks to make things as even and fair as possible.
We have split twelve people into four teams of three. Those teams picked an album each, and will be attempting to get as many people as they can to write reviews for the album they chose. They also paid money into a pot, and the team with the most reviews for their album wins the pot.
All twelve participants (plus me, your editor-in-chief Joe, as I am not on a team and will remain an impartial judge throughout) will have to write a review every week. So that's thirteen reviews each Friday at least. Hopefully not at most! You can write a review too! Reviewing albums is fun! Especially when three of your friends are holding a gun to your head and making you do it!
The team's were tasked with filling out some of the Sunday write-up as well. Their words are in quotes below, but when the EiC adds something, it will be sans quotes.
Good luck out there, everybody. Let's have fun with it.

Sorry Radiohead
SORRY RADIOHEAD'S REASON FOR CHOOSING THIS ALBUM: "We were surprised to see that Radiohead has never been selected for Record Club before. We thought the listeners might also appreciate some cathartic minor-key music. And we were all flabbergasted that some of the music from this album was featured in the Twilight movie (specifically, the end credits)."

ABOUT: "Joe can fill this in. It's Radiohead. We all know Radiohead, right?"
Fuck! This was supposed to save me three minutes while putting together the write-up. Yes, most of us know Radiohead, but that's not necessarily true for everyone! Record Club is an inclusive group! Write a review even if you've never listened to this band before!
Radiohead is a rock band that formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, in 1985. It has had a steady lineup, consisting of Thom Yorke (vocals, etc.), Jonny Greenwood (guitar, etc.), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals), and Philip Selway (drums). Nigel Godrich is their producer and unofficial sixth member. The band hit it big commercially with the '90s alt-rock hit "Creep," but in the decades since have staked a claim as one of rock's most critically acclaimed bands. Radiohead has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. They have six Grammys, and have been nominated for more Mercury Prizes than any artist in history. And so on and so on.

DISCOGRAPHY: The first Radiohead album was Pablo Honey (1993), and their most recent was A Moon Shaped Pool (2016), and those are probably the only two Radiohead albums that no person in their right mind could have any right to claim as their favorite Radiohead album. Albums that fans have claimed are "the best" Radiohead album include The Bends (1995), OK Computer (1997), Kid A (2000), In Rainbows, and The King of Limbs (2011). Only three of those albums should be considered as a possible "best," but these write-ups are objective, so I won't drop my personal opinions here.

ADDITIONAL INFO
READING SOME SHIT: "A Medium article about the 'Pay What You Want' strategy; a 2009 NPR article; Pitchfork's Top 200 albums of the past 25 years, per its readers (In Rainbows at #4)."
WATCHING SOME SHIT: "'15 Step' at the Grammys. Take it with a grain of salt because it's the Grammys and they were introduced by the yoni steam goop queen herself. But here ya go."
PREVIOUSLY ON RECORD CLUB: "Literally so many good artists on these Twilight soundtracks that we've covered in RC. It's quite bizarre. Twilight conspiracy theory? Paramore, Iron & Wine, Death Cab, the Black Keys, 100 gecs (please see this video for proof). Who did I miss?"
This is Joe, with the Twilight artists that were missed (I included bonus track artists for the sake of posterity, and not because I believe in bonus tracks, whether on a movie soundtrack or ever): O.A.R., the Killers, OK Go, Florence + the Machine, Jack White as part of the Dead Weather, Beck, and Green Day.
I also think it's funny that Radiohead was explicitly mentioned in "The One That Got Away" by Katy Perry two weeks ago in Record Club. It's too bad that Perry opted not to get that Huey Lewis and the News tattoo instead.

As far as the PWYW pricing model is concerned, Radiohead made it famous, but Jeff Rosenstock of the Arrogant Sons of Bitches was doing it first (with his subsequent band Bomb the Music Industry!). And In Rainbows, on top of PWYW, is also known for spearheading the idea of a "surprise" album release. Two other artists are on this list of famous surprise album releases: the Raconteurs and Beyoncé.
Some random Radiohead history stuff. When Radiohead formed, they were known as On a Friday. In the mid-'80s, they were part of the same Oxfordshire music scene as Slowdive. In 1996, they toured opening for Alanis Morissette. Phil Selway and Jonny Greenwood acted in the fourth Harry Potter movie as members of the Weird Sisters, which means we are covering our second Harry Potter band. In Rainbows lost the Mercury Prize in 2008, and so did Adele's 19 (neither artist has ever won the award). Radiohead has stated that Alice Coltrane is an influence. I'm just scrolling through the Wikipedia page here, folks.

RC CLASSIC ALBUM OF THE WEEK
Every week from now on, we're giving a quick re-listen to the RC album we covered five years ago exactly. Check out the quick reevaluation every Friday morning, before the regular reviews. Reevaluation, reflection, something like that. We'll see.
