Prompt: "...And now a song you would play if you were trying to end that party"
Selected by Gilson
"My World"
Guns n' Roses
Use Your Illusion II, 1991
I think I know A LITTLE BIT about ruining a party with music choices. At his wedding, Nate used an iPod instead of a DJ and refused to give me, a groomsman, the password to access said iPod. This was indisputably the right decision.
Let me say this: depressing, slow music does not end a party for me. If you put on an Alice in Chains song, I'll just tune out the depressingness. Red House Painters' ten-minute droners become background music to me. The music that, in my opinion, absolutely ends a party is the type of song where your first, continued, and only reaction is "what the fuck is this shit?" No other opinions are allowed. And the songs that best fit the category are the ones where that idea gets internally repeated until it grows in violence and becomes external.
This song comes at the end of Use Your Illusion II and thus is the last original song Guns n' Roses would release until the similarly dogshit and industrial "Oh My God" from the End of Days soundtrack. The only saving grace is its length. At this point, GnR had released two albums on the same day with (by my mental math) no fewer than five songs over seven and a half minutes long, and Axl Rose still realized this piece of garbage should not reach the two-minute mark.
What the fuck is this shit.

"Alright, everybody, whose ready for LOVE?!?!"
<"Nostalgia" by Archers of Loaf begins blasting from the speakers. The dance floor clears of everyone except Joe. My wedding, somehow, has been annulled.>
Real question: was the iPod shuffling, or did you have a specifically curated playlist?
