All I can think of when listening to this album is trying to dye my friend Katie's dark brown hair bright red in my parents' bathroom the summer before eighth grade. This was a revolutionary act for Catholic school girls who were only allowed "natural" hair colors. We tried to be so careful, but got the bleach on my mom's bathmat and Manic Panic on her light blue shower curtain. We attempted to wash the curtain and cover the bleach stains with markers with limited success. Katie's hair was a much bigger success, especially for a first-time attempt.
This is a classic pop-punk album that gained so much commercial success during our formative years. I'll be genuinely shocked if there are people on the blog who are listening to this for the first time this week (or at the very least don't recognize most of the songs). It feels energetic, catchy, and young. It was a fun throwback to listen to this week.
So here's to thinking you're a badass at thirteen, to dying your friend's hair red on an endless summer day, and to praying that it will fade enough by Labor Day so that Sister Maryanne can't give her detention for such a flagrant dress code violation.
