"I Feel Alive"
Minecraft Steve (played by Jack Black)
from A Minecraft Movie (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
2025
Is that a fucking challenge?!?!?!
I think that these four guys were chosen for this particular reddit shitpost because each of them has his own unique "comedic persona" that the majority of their work employs. They very rarely act "against type." Indeed, I'm sure most of their roles that they're hired for are because that particular movie or TV show requires their specific comedic persona for that particular role.
Think about Will Ferrell in the Barbie movie. Think about Seth Rogen in Neighbors. Think about Steve Carrell in Date Night. Think about Jack Black in, yes, A Minecraft Movie. All random examples, but you can close your eyes and picture each of these jabronis in their respective roles. Even if you've never seen that particular movie before! That's the beauty about carving a niche in comedy—there's a comfort in the audience knowing exactly what they are going to get. The flip side of that coin is that, if you don't find that particular brand of humor funny, then you are so rarely going to enjoy that actor in anything.
If you really care all that much, then you can go and seek out roles that these actors play against type. Carrell plays against type—or at least he strips all the levity out of his Michael Scott mope character—in Dan in Real Life, and while it's not particularly compelling, it at least avoids the trappings that this shitpost imply are unavoidable. I haven't watched that recent Seth Rogen TV show because I don't watch TV, but I've heard good things about The Studio, and am told that he is a very "non-Rogen" character in that one. I am convinced at this point (having seen the film in question 20 times now) that Jack Black is playing a parody of a "Jack Black type" in A Minecraft Movie, like he was asked to play up his typical comedic persona to the degree that it is clearly parodic, and I've come to appreciate that meta joke (if it exists and isn't just in my deranged brain).
But all those require you to not be so incredibly annoyed with each actor's respective comedic persona that you're swearing them off forever. If I'm being honest, this is how I feel about Will Ferrell. I'm sure there are dramatic roles—in fact, I'm realizing now that I've seen Stranger Than Fiction, which definitely fits the bill here—but I don't necessarily feel the desire to seek that shit out, so deeply does Will Ferrell annoy me. It's just how he is! It's what he's known for! He built his name on being the specific comedian that he is! That's what the people are paying money for! But I find it grating. That's on me.
Regardless of whose fault it is, however, I'll say that on most days, it's just easier to say "this dude fucking sucks" than have to write out all these qualifying details. I back the idea of writing a dumb reddit shitpost like this. Honestly, getting this text from Sam made me laugh more than almost anything that Will Ferrell has ever done.

Here is my official ranking for Who Is Least Funny of These Guys Featured in This Reddit Post:
4. Seth Rogen (actually funny)
3. Jack Black (this song fucking rocks)
2. Steve Carrell (I saw him in IF and now I want him to bury himself alive)
1. Will Ferrell (Step Brothers is obnoxious)
