Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 162: Sunny

Prompt: "A song titled 'The Underdog' by a band called Spoon from an album called Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga released in 2007"

Selected by Sunny

"The Underdog"
Spoon
Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, 2007

I considered, for a while, to zig instead of zag. Submit the Underdog theme song or something. What is editor JMK going for here today? I wonder, in my study.

I was thinking about what Zach said in his Day 160 least favorite xmas post, about how every YouTube music video has some insane treacle top rated comment with it. I mean, the one he posted—what's the timeline there? Nine months later from hearing their adoption fell through and this person has a seven-month-old? So they got a kid two months after Last Christmas (February), and hearing this Ingrid Michaelson song? Does that even make sense? Regardless, Zach's right—look at any song past 2014 and there'll be something posted like this. More often on bigger arists, bigger singles, etc. But why? WHY? Is it the same reason recipe websites are padded out and YouTube instructional videos have to be ten min minimum: for engagement? But YouTube comments? Is there a lower level on the internet?

There's also a lot of comments like "who's here in 2024," which, while lazy, seem to work.

You made a good choice for today's song. I would have been FUCKING LIVID if you had chosen the Underdog theme song.

I also think that if I looked at the YouTube comments for "The Underdog," it would most likely not be my favorite song anymore.
