Prompt: "A song that sounds best coming from a car stereo while the windows are down on a foggy night"

"The Rose"
Bette Midler
The Rose, 1979
It's Thanksgiving 1998. You have just spent the day at your grandma's house. Finding old relics like a typewriter to play with your cousins. Eating first, second, and thirds. Dessert! Mom and Dad don't care how much you've eaten. Grandma is just happy to have a full house, especially since she's been a widow for eight years and she is easing into retirement. The sun sets early, and your parents load you into the new red 1998 Ford Windstar. Fighting over who gets the bench seat for the 50-minute ride back down into Maryland. Michael won, you had it on the way up. Rookie move, now you don't get to stretch out and sleep on it like a couch.
Slowly you doze off with your head against the cold window, head bouncing onto the glass over the rough state roads. You finally fall asleep for a bit, only to peek through your eyes on 83-South to the giant star that sits atop a hill right before the Maryland state line. Your parents always keep 101.9 Lite FM on the radio. A pre-recorded syndication of Delilah is playing. Brad called in to dedicate "The Rose" to his wife of eighteen years, you fall back asleep.

This is a good blog post, and I can't decide whether I want it to be a real memory or something you made up.
Inspired by all true events. All at once?? Likely not.
