I don't know exactly what it is, the production probably, that makes this album feel so Disney coded. Even more so than Demi or Rodrigo. The music has that mid-'00s hyper bubblegum character, complete with memorable lyrics like "How can you hang up, if the line is dead?" and, of course, "let it wash away my sanity." That last one is very Evanescence. Speaking of, in retrospect, was Evanescence a Christian rock band?
Anyway, "Come Clean" has been and continues to be the big track on here. Most of the album post track 1&2 is hazy for me. I forget whose "Little Voice" it is and/or the up-tempo rocking of what the "Math" adds up to. Even though "Why Not?" is lurking there at the back, in its weird somewhat addictive way.
I can't decide if I like the timbre of Duff's voice or not. It bounces back and forth between two main registers. That's studio magic baby.
This is an album and artist made by and for the Disney Channel audience. A channel which I didn't have until embarrassingly old. I can see how Duff delivers on the promise of Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens. "So yesterday, haven't you heard that I'm going be okay" does as well as anything else to sum up the album.
