Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 159: Brianna

Prompt: "A song about keeping warm"

Selected by Brianna

"Keeping Warm"
We Were Promised Jetpacks
These Four Walls, 2009

As temperatures begin to slowly decrease to normal fall numbers this week, I find this prompt to be highly appropriate. If all goes as it should (which I wouldn't put my money on these days), we all will soon be considering how to keep warm with more frequency in the days and weeks to come.

Am I one of the few to welcome this? I don't mean in a climate changer worrier sense—as I hope that's a category we'd all fall under—but rather of a cold weather enjoyer. The cold itself is not so favorable to me, but the act of getting and keeping warm is one of my favorite sensations.

Move me from 100-degree weather into an AC blasted room and I find joy in that only briefly. Soon, I'd be shivering myself into oblivion and wishing to feel the burning sun on my skin again. Move me from ten degrees into a heat blasted room, however, and find me as content as I could ever be. There is no warmth I would shy away from, no number on the thermostat too high or distance to the radiator too close. I live for times like these!

So, quit your complaining and enjoy it. Find the biggest, snuggliest sweater you have, brew a cup of hot chocolate, and join me. Trust me, it's better this way.

Thanks for approaching the prompt head-on. I don't know if I would've given it serious thought if you hadn't written about it. Were you the one who got my kids the book about how animals keep warm? It's a good book, and I probably would've written about it today, if things were different.

Oh shit, the OTHER Scottish (Welsh?I will not be looking it up) indie rock band from the mid-to-late aughts! Hell yeah!
