Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 40: Jeanine

Prompt: "The song that someone told you was their favorite song and in that moment you knew for certain that they had different taste in music than you"

Selected by Jeanine

"Sound System"
Operation Ivy
Energy, 1989

I had to use a lifeline, and phoned a friend for this prompt. One of my best friends, Bridget, loves punk music. I like most musical genres, except metal, punk, hard rock, death metal—to me, it's all just very loud noise. I love Limp Bizkit, but that's as far as I go.

Right now, I am listening to Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star by Black Star. I love them, and I love rap/hip-hop. I also love classic rock and pop. I don't necessarily mean Britney Spears, although I was a HUGE Britney fan pre-K-Fed. Pop encompasses so many different sounds now. I used to be one of those Backstreet Boys fans. I rushed home from the bus stop every day to watch TRL and see if they beat *NSYNC for the number one spot.

I am really glad we are all old enough to remember TRL. #neverforget
