Grateful RC'er reviewing for the first round of the Battle Royale. And oh boy, does Huey Lewis & the News remind me to practice gratitude. Not only does this album have a "fuck yeah, power ballad!" vibe, but there's some good wisdom throughout the album Fore! "Jacob's Ladder" is a classic metaphor of the bridge between materialism and heaven as you see it, and the irony of the holy man who tries to bamboozle one into giving up material good by paying a tithe. "Stuck with You" is a reminder that, despite the trials and tribulations of any relationship, one can find peace and joy with choices they may "not have always thought were going to work out with another person. "Hip to be Square" reminds me of how toxic the saying is that "you can't trust someone who doesn't drink," and that quite the opposite is true!
While the songs start to sound bland over the 37-minute compilation—the same structure with what seem like perfectly placed karaoke instrumental breaks—Huey Lewis and the News' Fore! can liven up anyone's day and bring them down to earth a little. If you made it through the whole album, the band shows some additional range with their a cappella song, "Naturally." What a great way to start closing out this album and remind everyone that when you're down, there's something to look forward to on the other side of it!
This album had me puking about 90%! Thanks for a great start to the Battle Royale!
