I don't want to talk about Jesse Lacey.
I wish the youth of today knew about AIM away messages, and a part of me thinks that the confluence of Taking Back Sunday and Brand New and the like with away messages was a match made in heaven, but if I was older and away messages were around during grunge, I know which lyrics I would have used. Shit, I'm sure that I did use tons of Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains lyrics for away messages.
But let's be honest: the rise of text messaging makes AIM redundant. It's not sad, it's just progress. Walking out of a movie or getting off of a plane and checking your phone to find zero notifications is like coming back to your dorm room having no messages waiting from your away message. Which was the equivalent to having no voicemails in the '90s.
One of my least favorite genres of internet video is "Look at how this young person doesn't know how to do an old thing," like dial a rotary phone or even use a landline. Yeah, no shit they don't. They've never had to. If you handed me a crank and put me in front of a Model T and said "Start her up!" I wouldn't be able to do it either. Technology moves on. The internet was a mistake.

Dude, those videos really are the worst. It's like, yo, how many times have I had to help the 60-year-olds in this office print a fucking Word document? Can't we all just admit that we're all clueless when it comes to certain technologies?
