The power-pop agenda continues apace.
Couple things leapt to mind for this prompt. "Like Eating Glass" by Bloc Party, which is not explicitly about keeping warm, but is about dealing with a house that's too cold; "Keep Yourself Warm" by Frightened Rabbit, the politics of which will not be revisited at this time. Alas, as those songs were not released in 2024, they cannot be discussed here.
Does it feel worse this time? Does the absence of shock dull the impact of the decline?
Moving on. Jeff VanderMeer has returned to the Southern Reach on his latest novel, Absolution, and the returns have finally, definitively diminished. The disorientation and dream-like narrative obfuscation that powered Annihilation to great heights (and at least gave ballast to Authority and, depending on tolerance, Acceptance) has come crashing back to incoherence on this latest edition. Moments of uncanny or horror cannot rise above the swamp of VanderMeer's commitment to wrong-footing the reader. It's hard to give voice and shape to the indescribable, but this was the guy who used to be able to do it. He's lost in his own wild wilderness, no longer carving enough of a path to make the visit worth it.

You really fucked up, not being able to choose any Bloc Party songs. Though I really like this sound from Wifey. I am fully buying into the agenda.
