Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 123: Sunny

Prompt: "The song that caused for you an existential crisis"

Selected by Sunny

Kid A, 2000

Painfully cliché story time. My first indulgence in cannabis was sophomore year of college when PoYB pontificator Walter (shoutout to team Sorry Radiohead) brought over a half dozen imbued corn muffins.

I remember College providing novel experience after novel experience for basically four full years, which would have me oscillate between very painful and very fun/exciting feelings. In the Yogic/Chakra psychological system of thinking, there is a second development cycle of your six primary Chakras in early adulthood corresponding with the advent of personal independence. College really lends itself to that considering the population and environment. Opening the first two or three Chakras is nearly automatic; after that, it gets a bit harder. Anyway, this corn muffin was the artifact of those exciting feelings on this particular Saturday or Sunday night or whatever.

After eating Walter's prescribed half-dose, I felt nothing, so I took another half dose, and then felt way too much (a self-induced blow I'd repeat in the future). I had the impulse to listen to Kid A thinking one of my touchstones of "Idioteque" would help me feel right. I didn't get much further than "Everything..." without starting to freak, eyes closed, wondering if anything was in its right place. I think I'd get inspired to get my calf tattoo around here. I made it to Track 3 and thought "I should learn to play this bassline" before putting myself to bed. Classic embarrassing cool-ege story.

"This ain't shit, I better take more" / "I fink I smeen hospithal" is a suburban dirtbag right of passage, as-salaam- alaikum.

I like that Walter had previously chosen this song for Summer Song Challenge. Makes for tighter world-building.
