It's funny, how the details will be washed away and what will remain is the soft memory of a nice day hiking along the perimeter of the nearby farm, on a day off, with the kids, and the weather was nice and the cows enjoyed their time with us. Because in the moment, it's not usually all that hunky-dory, there are moments of tension and stress, kids who don't listen and pull mildly dangerous maneuvers because they don't know better and they whine and complain and it's muggy and the whole damn trail is uphill and they whine and complain some more. But I wouldn't remember any of that, if I weren't documenting it here. I'd just remember a nice day. And even if I am documenting it here, I'll document the wink too, the knowing smirk that says that it's nicer to just remember it as a nice day, no need to hang on to those details, no matter what the nasty blog says otherwise.
