The Innocents, Sunny

Narrator: "I love 88!"

Ryan Stiles (The Drew Carey Show): "This is the happiest we're getting. There's something for everyone. We still have Whitney and Diana. GnR is blowing up. And now you're getting hunk after hunk making dance music. George Michael, INXS? Erasure!? You can't turn on the radio without hearing a British synth duo in Reagan's America. That said something."

Michael McDonald (MadTV): "Well that whole album was hits. 'A Little Respect,' 'Ship of Fools,' sure, obviously. But even 'Sixty-Five Thousand' would be sampled for every Genesis game's bonus level music."

Sting: "Without Erasure, there is no 'Desert Rose.'"

Donald Faison (Scrubs): "You need to understand—MTV is the thing right now. You saw this man fly through the air in a steel plant singing about holding hands with strangers. It's the gayest, greatest thing I've seen."

Paul Feig (Sabrina, the Teenage Witch): "We looked back at 1968 and we really thought we did it. We're grown up now, but can still have fun. People hadn't felt this relieved in a while. You already knew then this would be the nostalgia hangover in 20 years."

Ryan Stiles (The Drew Carey Show): "Hangover? Kids are pranking each other just by sending the Rick Astley song. Why didn't we do that?"

Narrator: "Coming up, what's in a name?, how do you know what's really there, and someone's getting a little nervous. Next on I Love 1988! But first—Then and Now, 1988: A Year of Tuition at Harvard (Then: $12,000 / Now: $51,925), AIDS deaths (Then: 16,380 / Now: 15,820), Median Real Earnings (Then: $16,848 / Now: $19,084)."
