Wrath—"I wasn't even supposed to be here today!" I mean, I know that I'm getting paid five days a week, so it makes sense that I should expect to work up to five days a week. Being told that you have a paid day off and then being instructed the night before to get your ass to work in the morning despite everything you were told previously, it still stings a little bit. Here's something that will take the sting out of it completely: Starting a week from today, I and the rest of my coworkers are expected to all come to work every day. No more COVID Excused Days. Bummer. It's especially a bummer because, I dunno, my life is at risk? And none of my coworkers wear protective gear? And the pandemic is not over? And no one else in my building is expected to come back to work full time? And we feel like guinea pigs a little bit?
Pride—No one makes a fool of me, so I took an hour and a half for lunch out of spite, and just kinda walked around a little bit. I ended up, as I often do, at the Foodery. Walked the shelves, trying to pick out something cost effective but also one that's gonna pack a punch during the little break that I have. The manager, a genial middle-aged dude who's there every time I am, was really excited to show me some of the newer beers they have in stock. I listened half-heartedly; it's nice having someone try to pass their beer excitement off to their customers (every six-pack store needs someone like this), but I kinda have to go with my gut sometimes too. I don't really care what new breweries' beers are in stock. If something looks cool and isn't expensive and is higher than like 7% ABV, than it will find me.
Greed—Gran Met and Voodoo Love Child seemed to fit that bill. They are technically two different beers, but they are pretty much the same save for one ingredient. Both are Belgian tripels, so they both had that sweet Belgian yeasty taste. Love Child, however, was apparently brewed with fruit, so it definitely had a dark fruit aftertaste. Both were 9.2% ABV, full-flavored, and reasonably priced (definitely a fraction of the price of Belgian beers that are actually brewed in Belgium). But did I really need two of them? Seems greedy to me. It's like something about lunchtime drinking makes me drink double what I usually would.
Lust—Two beers is definitely under the threshold as far as beer making me do anything stupid. Well below that threshold. I feel like I've been pretty good in 2020, all things considered. Two beers is a lot in the context of 2020, but it would seem like child's play to 2019 Joe.
Gluttony—These were good fucking beers. So good that I wanted to know more about Voodoo Brewery. What's their deal? I did some googling after I finished my tremendous buffalo chicken sandwich. Voodoo was established in Meadville, PA (near Erie), so, definitely not that close. But according to their website, they have a new beer garden in Kensington!
Envy—Nevermind, it's New Kensington, PA, which is... only five hours away, according to Google Maps. For a brief moment, I had visions of bringing the kids to some posh parking lot in Fishtown and enjoying a few more Gran Mets, but alas.
Sloth—Back at the office, feeling good and sleepy, I decided that that was enough for the day. No more calls, no more blogging. Just solitaire and music and running out the clock. I never said beer didn't make me lazy as fuck. Kinda crazy that I've more or less kept up with a blog-a-day beer challenge.
