In shock to absolutely no one, it's Beyoncé! My fourth Beyoncé pick out of almost 40 songs picked. Putting me at 10% Beyonce picks. I'll try to expand my repertoire, not just for me, but also for you all reading along.
"TEXAS HOLD 'EM" did stop me in my tracks though. Beyoncé is producing her first country album. After her 2016 CMT performance of "Daddy Lessons" from her Lemonade album, Beyoncé was given the cold shoulder by the country industry. Is it racism? Is it too pop? Is it classism? Is it fear that she will dominate and country folks just don't want that? There are arguments for all of them. But, she took that moment to create an entire album, taking back the genre. Very cool!
2024 is going to be a very country heavy year, as it's trendy right now to use country music as an influence. Kacey Musgraves is back to country, Taylor Swift has another album coming in April (TDB how country it will be, but she is a pacemaker in the industry), Beyoncé doing a full country album, Lana Del Ray teasing Lasso this fall, and Post Malone collaborating with M*rgan W*llen (censored for our EiC). It's going to be a bit yee yee 'round these parts. I'm ready for it!

My opinion on asterisks: asterisks for friends and family, no asterisks for racist scumbags. Name them and shame them.
My opinion on Americana and country music: This genre, like any genre, should be open to any artist who wants to try their hand at it. Anyone who tries telling any musical artist to "stay in their lane" is a fucking moron.
My opinion on this song: It stinks. More specifically, it stinks like the Lumineers.

OK - So I thought that 16 CARRIAGES stunk, and now that you say it... like the Lumineers. I think TEXAS HOLD 'EM is more fun and upbeat like old The Chicks. Also, I am going to file a complaint with Beyonce for these all caps titles. They are a little obnoxious.

Oh, wait, to answer your question, it’s all of those, but mainly because she is going to dominate. This album is SO GOOD. Cowboy Carter is in its own genre.
