This is definitely not the first song that I ever heard, but this is the song that I most vividly remember hearing for the first time. Also, it may have been my first time misgendering someone based on name alone—whoops! Pre-internet, I remember desperately wanting the CD, but could not easily recall the name of the song or artist. Nine-year old Beth was really out there thinking that the artist could have been Marilyn Manson. I could not have been more wrong about that! Thank god I finally figured it out, because the alternative would have been a huge disappointment for me. Iconic song.
