Man, am I happy to be writing about music again (never thought I'd say that in my life). When the Summer Song Challenge ended, the first time I saw Joe I was asking him if he was going to prepare something like this again. Not that I think I am a good writer or even have good taste in music, but it's nice to know that you can have a minor impact on people around you (and also force people to listen to your music). So anyway. Welcome to all the new people, and "what's up" to all the OGs from the first Song Challenge. I think my last sentence of my last song was "maybe we can do this again soon?" So here we go.
This band Currents has been my favorite of the last few months. Nice and heavy, but also good vocally, and also the guitar rifts are ridiculous. I went with "Guide Us Home" because it's kind of like: "Hey, come home, start anew, home is where the heart is, and we all start our days from home."
The last half of the song still gives me chills. Hearing the lead singer belt out "Don't save us like we're unworthy of your forgiveness!" and looking in my backseat and my kids are singing along it too, lol. Not sure if the song is about "starting over," but some of the lyrics kind of talk about an afterlife. "Oh god we've tried to overcome the pain, but all that's left for now is to face the lives that lie beyond us." So to me, an afterlife is almost like restarting, right? I guess we won't know until we know.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. Still trying to get used to this writing thing. I am sure this year will help.
