Summer Song Challenge, Day 84: Sam

Prompt: "A song for the last mile of your run"

Selected by Sam

Staying with my friends Ben and Eleni tonight, as we're testing our the kids sleepover idea. My five-year-old is fine, and it seems my two-year-old is good enough.

Anyway, after the kids went to bed, I asked this prompt. Ben is training for the Philly Marathon. He seems best to answer this Q.

Apparently, 180 beats per minute is the optimal running rhythm—it results in the perfect "cadence" to get 180 steps in a minute. Spotify makes playlists and recommendations based on this construct. This song, Ben says, fits the bill.

Ben and Eleni also both extol the virtues of the book Born to Run. This running memoir is sure about ultramarathoners pounding the pavement, but also about a way of life.
