READING SOME SHIT: Last year, this album celebrated its fifteenth anniversary (which means it is sixteen years old now, and so it is as old as you were when you first listened to the album, probably).
PREVIOUSLY ON RECORD CLUB: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not is now officially the Record Club album with the longest title (tough luck, Set My Heart on Fire Immediately and Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost — Part 1 and Part 2).
This album also won the U.K.'s prestigious Mercury Prize, which is the annual award for the country's best album. Four RC alumni were nominated for non-RC albums: Erasure (1991's Chorus), Gorillaz (their 2001 self-titled), Adele (twice, for 19 and 21), and Foals (twice, for Total Life Forever and Holy Fire). Three RC albums have been nominated for a Mercury Prize—Foals' Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost, Fontaines D.C.'s Dogrel, and Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia. Most importantly, Record Club album KIWANUKA actually won the award in 2020 for Michael Kiwanuka (on his third nomination for the prize).
Happy listening, fam! Have a great week!
