Plastic Hearts, Nolan

As the album selector of the week, I feel obligated to write a review as justification for my choice. I don’t want to say this album was a total letdown for me, but it does fall short on the promises that I felt were being made. I definitely was played by Miley’s people on this one, who were set on making me believe that this was going to be a total change of direction for her. But alas, here we are, left with some strong covers, flat lyrics, a wasted Joan Jett feature, and some catchy melodies.

I really can’t say that I dislike this album. At first, I thought I did on account of my initial disappointment with the direction, and because the first song is so bad and Billy Idol just sucks, but I came around and found myself enjoying the second half. I don’t want to give her any credit for "Prisoner," because it just seemed like Dua Lipa gave her a song she didn’t want on her album. But "High," "Hate Me," "Midnight Sky," and "Golden G String" all have a nice sound that are enjoyable at best.

It’s not groundbreaking. It’s not “Miley’s new sound”. Goddamn it, it’s not that one cover of "Head like a Hole" from Black Mirror. That’s literally all I wanted. It’s a decent album, albeit incredibly frustrating.
