Despite what you may have heard, it is not particularly fun to write about Christmas music.
Look, there is a ceiling to this kind of thing and that ceiling is "Ah yes, this can peacefully be played in the background while we all engage in various holiday activities and offerings. Oh ho, do you hear that Christmas music? Neither do I, but isn't it lovely to have sound hitting our ears while these cookies we make / presents we wrap / tree we trim / dinner we eat / cards we mail? Is the mood not effectively set by (insert X artist here)'s rendition of (insert Y Christmas classic here)? You know that it is, my yuletide friend! Did we not enjoy (insert X artist here)'s handful of seasonally-twinged original, newly-written Christmas songs? Oh, you're right, we didn't really listen to those, but, look, here comes (insert Z Christmas classic here), we love this one! Truly, as this music amplifies, it is, once again, the Christmas time!"
No shots at Dolly, no shots as Christmas music. This passes the bar it needs to and, if you'd like a little more Jesus in your Christmas music, Dolly's got you there, too. This, too, will pass. Please add Dolly to the pile of completely agreeable, completely unremarkable Christmas albums.
