This Is My Blood: Tangerine Squeeze

Here's my review of today's beer: Tangerine Squeeze suffered by not making its tangerine flavor a little more subtle than it was. This beer almost tasted like juice. It was refreshing as a beverage, but it wasn't enjoyable as a beer.

But I wasn't thinking too much about the beer tonight, I was more thinking about the name, and how mundane it is. "Tangerine Squeeze" bores me. I don't talk about beer names often enough on this column, so let's backtrack and talk about some beer names we've already gone through.

I don't even want to go back and make judgments on these beer names—we've already talked about lame beer names, and I have a problem with boring names too. No, today I want to explain some of those names, well after the point that I should've in the first place. I'm interested in the literal terms, and not what the brewer intended to mean with the name. What do these names mean outside the context of beer? Let's find out.

• Mind Body Light Sound—a Swans song
• Purple Haze—a Jimi Hendrix song
• Eraserhood—a neighborhood in Philadelphia (north of Chinatown, basically)
• Squall!—a squall is "a sudden violent gust of wind or a localized storm"
• Sigma Kids—a David Bowie fan club
• No One Likes Us, We Don't Care—a quote from Jason Kelce's infamous Super Bowl Parade speech
• J.A.W.N.—a reference to the Philly slang term with a nebulous definition
• Sunshine Daydream—a Grateful Dead documentary, which is itself named after a lyric in the Deads' "Sugar Magnolia"
• The Prairie-Grass Dividing—A Walt Whitman poem
• ///Fear.Movie.Lions—already explained, just clicked the link (impossible to summarize)
• This Is How We Ill—I'm stumped
• Hip Czech—a pun, based on the hockey move "hip check"
• Narwhal—a type of whale
• Daisy Cutter—a fuse on an aerial bomb (heard a character in Avatar use this one)
• Jazz Cabbage—slang for marijuana, appears to be used ironically
• Ring the Bell—A custom before 76ers games where a player or celebrity rings a bell shaped like the Liberty Bell
• Blue Moon—the 13th moon in the lunar cycle, or a song
• Stacy's Mom—a Fountains of Wayne song
• Pearl Necklace—they probably didn't mean the Urban Dictionary definition but maybe!
• #Adulting—meme-speak for when you act mature even though you'd rather still act immaturely like you used to
• Pale Succor—"succor" means "assistance and support in times of hardship and distress"
• Drop Bear—a creature in Australian folklore; a carnivorous koala bear
• La Fin Du Monde—French for "the end of the world"
• Fool's Gold—pyrite
• Kegnog—a portmanteau of "keg" and "eggnog"
• Babka Love Rugelach—babka and regulach are desserts customary in Jewish culture
