Set My Heart on Fire Immediately, Nate

In its least inspired moments Set My Heart on Fire Immediately is a Radiohead album without the decency to pretend its goal is anything other than would-be prestige TV soundtrack fodder. At its brightest ("Nothing at All," specifically), it transcends its pools electronic alt-rock and achieves a pathos that feels like a decidedly elegant commentary on the difficulty of connection in the ever-deepening digital age. Somewhere in the middle is "On the Floor," which is either a send-up of small-stakes hedonism pop or an above-average entry into the canon depending on where you sit.

One walks away from this album thinking that Perfume Genius might rather make movies than albums, but his ambition to turn one into the other is commendable. People who take big swings should be celebrated, or tolerated at least.
