There is nothing new under the sun. The cool freak sounds of today are, in fact, the cool freak sounds of Brazil in 1969. Heavy notes of garage rock in "Vou Recomeçar," of jazz slumming it on "Lost in the Paradise," of effortlessly composed cool throughout the proceedings. "Colonization is actually good" is a difficult position to defend, but let us agree that the Portuguese language is among the more beautiful ones, let us agree that it imbues this music with a linguistic sensuality that may not exist in the text and only in how the tongue moves around the mouth. Good record for good times, good record for bad times, good record for sitting at a desk hammering out inscrutable busywork, good album for digging a ditch, good record for kinetics of any kind.
