Summer Song Challenge, Day 97: Pam

Prompt: "A song about death"

Selected by Pam

"Joanne"
Lady Gaga
Joanne, 2016

I love this song. Joanne is probably my favorite Gaga album. Her documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two, shows her writing the song and performing it for her family, as the song was written about her late Aunt Joanne, who died as a teenager. It was a touching moment, Gaga performing the song for her dad (Joanne's brother).

It's weird to think about someone so important to your family dying before you even knew them at all. This song could easily be about someone that Gaga knew really well though. I enjoy the playfulness of "girl, where do you think you're going?" It's kind of like something that could be said around the end that would keep things light, bring on a smile, but at the same time convey a lot of love.
