This week, I didn't realize until right before composing this Sunday write-up that M.B.D.T was an EP. The rule up until now was that EPs are only eligible in late December or if they are more than 30 minutes long. But now I'm wondering why it mattered to me so much in 2019 that we didn't have any EPs. They can be artistic statements too, same as LPs. I don't think it would make much sense for us to cover too many EPs, so I adjusted the rule to limit it to four EPs per calendar year maximum. The headline here, though, is that there are rules, but the rules can be changed over time.
One rule that I will stand by is the No Repeat Artists rule. But even there, I could see a monthlong temporary gimmick at some time in the far future in which we meticulously choose repeat artists but for VERY GOOD REASON. I dunno, I'm workshopping it. I'm always workshopping Record Club ideas, you should know this by now.

ABOUT: Guilherme dos Santos Galdino was born on October 7, 2005, in Itaquaquecetuba, São Paulo, Brazil. This makes him, at least for the next few weeks, the only teenager we've ever covered in Record Club. He first started making music on his Samsung phone; now he has 309 million views on YouTube. DJ Arana is one of the leaders of the bruxaria movement. He was described in a Pitchfork review as a "human cannonball."
DISCOGRAPHY: I could only find information on RYM, and they have this album listed as an LP. But there are six previous EPs listed, starting with 2021's Rock pesado EP. The only LP is 2023's Rock pesado 2. There's also a 2024 mixtape called Playlist do mago 2.0.

RECORD CLUB CONNECTIONS: As mentioned above, DJ Arana is only nineteen years old, born in October 2005. That smashes the previous record by PinkPantheress (born April 2001, though to be fair, she was about 20 1/2 years old at the time of Record Club's coverage).
This is the first EP we've covered outside of Christmastime / end-of-year celebrations in exactly two years, when we listened to Jeremy Renner's The Medicine EP. If only I knew how else to connect these two luminaries.
Wracking my brain to remember any other verifiable DJs that have passed through these RC halls. Even though he didn't have the DJ moniker at the time, we covered Shaquille O'Neal a.k.a. DJ DIESEL a few weeks ago. Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover's original artist name was "alias mcDJ." I also get DJ vibes from U-Roy, even though I don't think he'd describe himself as such.
This is our second Brazilian artist, after our dearly departed Gal Costa.
MENTIONS ON THE BLOG: No mentions. I searched "arana" and got four hits: two for Saranac Brewing, one for Four Loko ingredient guarana, and one for the first person to ever use the phrase #MeToo, Tarana Burke.
