This is the image that comes up when you search for "the world is a beautiful place" but specify that you do NOT mean the band "The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die." That looks pretty nice. I also can't tell if it's AI-generated, which I guess is going to be a constant concern for the rest of our lives, isn't it? Does it matter? Does it matter if the stupid little picture that I put on the discussion post for four people is generated by AI? I'm not paying the artist either way, so maybe it doesn't matter. Or maybe this band was right and EVERYTHING matters and EVERYTHING is worth fighting for. I dunno, let's get into it on this Friday morning. Whatchya think of those reviews?

I chose this album because I like this band, but I did not expect it to be a metal album. After that realization, I expected there to be some very negative reviews, but that didn't happen either. The majority reaction was: ehhhh, this is fine. Which to my eyes looks like we are tired and numb from all the things that tWIaBP is singing about here.
I think in the future, I want to choose albums that I know for sure are going to get a big reaction from people, either positive or negative. I want everybody to FEEL something.
I actually liked the use of the word "algorithm" in here (we're talking about the last song, right?). It might sound like an awkward number of syllables, but I thought Katie Dvorak handled it well, it was oddly catchy, and the whole phrase "sunscreen for the algorithm" is one I'm gonna hold onto.
Anything fun going on this weekend? We don't really have any plans. Probably gonna hit the diner before movie night tonight (the live-action Lilo & Stitch, not my pick). No idea about tomorrow. A rare free day.
Frankly, I wish this record was harder.
Baby steps for the emo band. Maybe if the world gets even worse, the metal will get even harder.
I was about to get on a whole jag here and A) accuse the writing of being lazy shorthand and too direct, which I have decided is not true and B) reveal myself to be entirely too online and too much of a pedant. So instead I will acknowledge your point and part as a friend who disagrees, as friends will sometimes do.
Only thing I'll suggest: Don't assume numbness with what can be just as easily explained by "it wasn't all that good"-ness
I listened to one song and said NO THANK YOU. I only put it on yesterday, but if I gave it a shot all week you would have gotten a "eeehhh it's fine but not for me!"
We are supposed to do Knoebels tomorrow but the weather isn't looking too promising :(
Yeah, that's fair. That was just me spitballing, trying to figure out why I was the only one who like it.
Possibly a difference of ages, but I will say that our weekend at Knoebels (October 2023) that was spent entirely in the rain was probably the best time we've ever had at that place. No lines!!!
It's cool that you tried it out, though. If it's just a "metal is not for me" thing, then maybe check out Hopelessness, because it wasn't always like this for this band. While I knew that they indulged in some metal leanings on the new album, had I known it was a straight-up metal album, I would've maybe picked differently. NO REGRETS.
