I started an internship this week and don't have time to write a proper review. I'm a little overwhelmed. Still, I needed to write something, especially since Face Value (really, anything else by Phil Collins) was another classic in my old commune, so much so that we had a chicken named Phil Cluck-ins, the sister of Peep Gabriel.
This is a truly impressive debut album. Phil Collins transformed the pain of his divorce into a compelling musical journey. It's both moody and raw with emotion, but still easy and fun to listen to. The drum break in "In the Air Tonight" is an iconic moment of '80s pop. One of my favorite moments is "Hand in Hand," I love the musical textures and the build-up. I think this is a great album from the start until the weird cover of "Tomorrow Never Knows."
