The Black Keys are what the kids would say, "a mood." And what's that mood exactly? It's the mood of walking into a dark dive bar in an unfamiliar town where everyone glares as you walk in. Simultaneously, it's the mood of "I can put this on as background music and generally no one will give me a hard time about it."
Versatility!
Sort of. Versatile that they strum along through rock, funk, soul, and even a little Americana. But less so in the sense, this is very much a Black Keys album that doesn't bring much new or different to the table. And maybe that's just fine. But, man, I remember how hard El Camino grabbed me by the collar right after college. This album sort of feels like all the dirt has been cleaned from under their fingernails.
Ah well, still a solid, agreeable listen.
