Despite the last album being in a completely unfamiliar language to me, listening to this album put me more out of my comfort zone than the former. I don't usually listen to rock, and if I do it's usually more soft-rock or mainstream Bruce Springsteen-like music. I knew from fifteen seconds into the intro that this would be quite an experience.
All in all, I liked listening more than I thought I would. I feel that this is a good album for me while doing errands and chores, because there is no way I'd be able to relax or unwind while listening to this. It kept me on my toes. Some songs definitely raised my anxiety levels, which in all fairness, is not hard to do. The repeated phrases of "Why did you not talk to me? You said you would talk to me, you can never talk to me again" in "I'm a Ghost" and "drink it down, drink it down, drink it down, drink it down" in "The High Party" particularly made my blood pressure rise. I can't fully say why. My best guess though is the repetition of the phrases felt more intense.
Since the musical genre is more unfamiliar to me, it was hard for me to pay attention to the lyrics, as I was more distracted by the guitar. However, my idea of the album completely changed once I looked up the lyrics. Without music in the background, the lyrics to me read like high quality poetry. Admittedly, I was a bit shocked at how much the lyrics for many of the songs moved me. I thought the lyrics were concise, complex, and heartfelt. I can't say that I will listen to this album again, but I feel much more inclined to read the lyrics through, and more carefully, again.
