Album of the Week: Pop?

That was a nice Record Club Christmas, everybody. Thanks to all those who participate in the ritual exchange of album reviews.

But now it's actually the week of Christmas, and as is tradition around here, we slow things down for a couple weeks with a few really short EPs, so that you can focus on the things that really matter during the holidays (i.e. not Record Club).

For all those still interested in participating during an otherwise busy week, we have a nine-minute-long EP for you to check out. (You can also explore the playlist and the archives, if you're bored for some reason.) Otherwise, we'll see you all in the new year!

WEEK 151 — December 19-25, 2021

What we're listening to this week (Joe's pick):

ALBUM:
Pop? EP
ARTIST: Tierra Whack

RELEASED: December 9, 2021

WHAT GENRE IS THIS: ...pop? (Sorry, low-hanging fruit)

WHY JOE PICKED IT: It's short, and ain't nobody got time for more than nine minutes of non-Christmas music this week. Also, I've been hearing good things about Tierra Whack, a Philly artist, for a while now, so maybe this will be a nice way to hop on the bandwagon. Also also, I dunno, I feel like we spent a lot of time this year as a group asking ourselves "What exactly is pop?" and it's good to know that maybe Tierra Whack has been asking herself the same question.

TRACKLIST:
  1. Body of Water
  2. Lazy
  3. Dolly
LENGTH: 08:23

WHERE TO LISTEN FOR FREE: YouTube

READING SOME SHIT: This person's entire discography is like a half hour long and she already has a cosmetics line? Mad respect. Also, you should probably know that this EP is the second of a three-part trilogy. Read Whack's thoughts about the project in the block quote found HERE.

PREVIOUSLY ON RECORD CLUB: Surprisingly, this is not the first Record Club album in 2021 that features a RC alumna Dolly Parton-inspired song called "Dolly." Anyone remember Jetty Bones?

Happy listening, fam! Have a great holiday week!
