Isn't it fascinating how out impulse, our gut reaction, our snap judgment, always seems to be some variation of "But I'm right"? There are sometimes when you're wrong, ya know. You're not right all the time. You can't be. If you think you are, your tendency to be right the majority of the time did irrevocable fucking damage to your psyche as a child. Maybe that's where I am right now, that mindset, as my physical being is located somewhere along the ol' railroad tracks of my daily route, when I receive a work call and I take the work call because I'm a supervisor trying to support my workers and I'm giving guidance and I hear "sir this is a quiet ride car!" and my very first impulse is: "But I'm right."
I wasn't. I hung up, and I thought about it, and of course, of course, of course I'm wrong. It was the quiet ride car. Doesn't matter if the call was an emergency. If I'm in a position where I think that there's a possibility that I'm going to receive a call that I need to take, then I shouldn't be sitting in the quiet ride car. It was rude, and I felt shame over it, and there was no amount of postering that I could've pulled to make me even remotely close to being right. My mind examined it from every angle, so strongly was my desire to find a way to be right. This happened in the span of three seconds. Then I settled on being wrong, and I rode out the rest of my quiet ride car ride quietly.
