alright this one takes a bit of an explanation, because it's not how it looks...
this is a racquetball club, nominally... i've never played racquetball, but i've been here before... plenty of times... more recently because now my kids are getting swim lessons here... or were, today was their final lesson... but back in the day, way back, i used to play roller hockey here, in the winter months...
maybe only a few seasons, i forget... the brain doesn't really document those details, you know this, i've reflected on it 183 times now it seems... but we were definitely here, playing roller hockey, down this hallway or that... i recall there was a time when we were left to our own devices, me a few friends... we were running these hallways, looking for trouble... we were looking to steal tennis balls, is what we were doing... there are tennis courts too, somewhere in this labyrinth...
and we found one, and we took it... and i have a memory of "getting caught" by some adult... he took the tennis ball back, found our parents, accused us of theft... no punishment, just reprimands... when i remember this, i remember it as an adult catching us stealing the tennis ball... but we were so young... it was probably just some kid a few years older than us... i'm trying to imagine the teenagers teaching my kids how to swim also moonlighting as the protectors of the club's tennis ball collection...
it was all so long ago... like a ship passing into the fog...
