JOE'S COMMENTS: "Besides Japanese Breakfast being some good shit, I got a book club coming up where we're reading Crying in H Mart, so I wanted to explore some of Zauner's work prior to her main project. Also, Philly indie rock is usually reliable. Also also, the phrase 'these are good people' felt like a good description of Record Club to start us off in the new year."

ARTIST DETAILS
ABOUT: An indie rock band from Philly. Active from 2011-2014. Fronted by Michelle Zauner, now best known for her work as Japanese Breakfast. Little Big League went on hiatus in 2014, when Zauner's mom was diagnosed with cancer, and she had to move back home (read about this time period in her critically acclaimed memoir Crying in H Mart). The band got back together for a bit in 2016, but then Japanese Breakfast started to blow up, so they called it for good.
DISCOGRAPHY: This is their first of two LPs, after a 2012 self-titled EP. Their second and final LP, Tropical Jinx, was released in 2014.

ADDITIONAL INFO
READING SOME SHIT: New Noise Magazine, 2013
WATCHING SOME SHIT: a music video for "My Very Own You"
PREVIOUSLY ON RECORD CLUB: These Are Good People was produced and mixed by a dude named Craig Hendrix. He would later become a member of Japanese Breakfast. In this interview, he talks about headlining tours where the openers were Mannequin Pussy, and then later, Snail Mail.
Little Big League also adds to our pantheon of sports-related music titles in Record Club. Previously, we've had Fastball, Free Throw, Johnny Football Hero, last week's A Philly Special Christmas, and I dunno, maybe Kick? (Bad news, though: Michelle Zauner threw out the first pitch for the Mets.) Also, this isn't the first "League," since we listened to Philly brethren Stereo League.
