The general tone and speed of the album is enveloping, and one finds it easy enough to get lost in the general flow. Sometimes it's nice to put something moody but not emo on. Sometimes the album is morose and sad. Sometimes the album is bouncy and alive. A certain weight tracks through the whole thing though.
Little peaks catch my ears on repeat listens—outro to "Desert," the spacey "From Far Away," much of "Having Been"—which feel arbitrary but meaningful. I imagine any listener could find their own little grooves after enough listens through, though what those grooves would be is likely unique. I wouldn't have guessed this was the Wilco frontman without being pre-informed, but it makes sense in retrospect. A delightful piece of singer-songwriter indie folk/rock.
