This is a band called the Defibulators. They seem a lot less cool than Fibulator, or at least less cool than how I picture Fibulator in my mind.

I probably had more thoughts about Record Club itself than I did about Fibulator this week, which is fine. I just really truly am in love with the idea of exploring music through this music club that I would have absolutely in no other circumstances been even aware of. I think the last time I felt joy in this specific way was with Waak Waak Djungi.
Zach mentioned his streak, and I will say that I'm really proud of him in this regard. Not just because of how hard it is to devote time to a silly little hobby every single week, but also because of the theory that I've been holding tight that in order for this to all make sense, you have to do it every week, even the weeks you don't feel like listening to new (to you) music. If Zach does RC enough weeks in a row, this will all stop sounding like "lots of sounds, lots of noises" eventually, I promise!

Seconded. I've said it before but poyb has taken the bulk of music discovery for me, and I'm not mad at that, because the old ways of riding spotify were crap
I listened to that Gothic Horizon album during my morning ablutions. Fun album. -Very- different from Fibu.
I appreciate Sunny because he always seems to hear things that I don't hear, or missed. I wasn't aware that there was an oboe on here, or that someone is yelling about their body specifically, but you can bet your ass I'm gonna hear that shit on this listen-through I have going on this morning. This is the true gift of Record Club, how we have our own individual thoughts about the music, but when you combine those thoughts together, it lifts up the music a little higher.

Unrelated to music 'criticism' - the weekend. I have a friend's surprise bday tomorrow (don't worry, they don't read this blog... yet).
This is the fourth surprise party I've been invited to this year, and it's March? What is this new cultural current? All *my* cultural touchstones have collapsed into the Mad Men surprise party for Don, with all the pain and joy and awkwardness that was.
Very cool that you listened to this album. I often wonder if it's actually a good album or if it just hit me at a weird/formative time in my life. I've never done mushrooms, for example, but it was cool being seventeen and having this document that was so clearly inspired by mushrooms. And maybe too it slipped in before "corny-ass acid-folk duo" became a descriptor that turned me off.
I didn’t get a chance to read the reviews yet, but wanted to apologize for my lack of review. I listened to the wrong fibulator album this week as it was the only one on Spotify and I didn’t double check. I thought it was cool, I like noise rock. Putting on the correct album this morning, my first impression is that “unhammerlike” is more refined, but in the same vein, if you like this you’ll love that.
My theory has always been that one of the best parts of a party is feeling the excitement leading up to it, and if you're thrown a surprise party, you're robbed of that excitement. But maybe it works if you don't get too excited before events, or if you hate parties regardless like Don Draper.
I was gonna make sure to ask what you thought of unhammerlike! My guess was that it was a good one, since it's the only album of Fibulator's four albums that anyone's bothered to reissue (so far). Thanks for checking in about it, I'll get around to that one eventually I hope.
Thanks guys! The weird thing is - I have pretty much the same amount of time to do things as I normally do. But this war has a way of getting in your head and your body, taking up space where you don't realize it, and so doing normal things (exercise, writing for Puke on Your Birthday) get harder.
I hope I get to this place that Joe describes - these things tend to happen when you don't realize it.
M this week told me (long story why) that there was supposed to be a surprise party for me but it got canceled. But that it will happen in April when I get back (I'm traveling to the US next week). So now I have a surprise happening that I know about. I happen to like surprises, but this feels like the best of both worlds.

Forgot to say that I was glad Sunny mentioned the weird audio thing on track 2. Living in the land of illegally downloaded mp3s for as long as I have, this kind of thing happens semi-often to me, and I usually chalk it up to it being the price of business. I wonder in this case if it was intentional by the artist, or a case of the YouTube file and the dark web file being from the same corrupted source.
