I have absolutely no time to write this album review, but I must. I MUST.
"Galway Girl" is a bop. It is a delight. Say nothing crass or rude about it, because it is joy in a song. Who is this girl, and how can I be more like her? A fiddler in an Irish band? Sign me up.
"Perfect" (the duet with Beyoncé version) was our wedding song, so, duh, this holds a place in my heart. "I found a love / for me" is such an iconic phrase. It may seem obvious, but this love isn't for anyone else. "I never knew you were the someone waitin' for me" felt very real when I met Gary, and we both had waited for the right moment and life ahead. I loved having Beyoncé show up on the track. One confused wedding goer asked if it was me singing, and that is the legacy of this album for me.
"Supermarket Flowers" is beautiful. Eddie Sheer-Sheer, how dare you?
When you realize that "Shape of You" was written for Rihanna, you also realize that Ed Sheeran can somehow do it all. Or is he doing too much? I like this album; I like Ed Sheeran as a lyricist and songwriter, and I'm emotionally attached to its songs; yet, I see some chaos in the album as a whole. He proves he can master almost any genre he touches, but when does that veer into musical chaos? Ultimately, I don't care. I love most of these songs and would get married to at least one of them.
