"Proud Corazón"
Anthony Gonzalez
from the movie Coco
2017
"Remember Me" is overrated. I think that's maybe the point, secretly? Like, here's this big hit that a big ol' fucking phony stole and turned into a Mexican sensation. Ernesto de la Cruz deserved to have a bell drop on his head for running this song into the ground. No, the real showstopper in Coco is the final song, sung by our lead, Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez). He giddily performs this song for his family, a family that has traditionally hated music, so for him to play the song and look around and see the smiles on his family members' faces (his bro and sis are even playing along on their own instruments!!), it means the world to him. It means the world to us, too. Miguel is honoring his family the only way he knows how, and he is truly happy.
