In My Place 290

The idea of "map of free bathrooms in the city" is one that floats around everyone's skulls at least once in their lives (I think it made it onto an episode of Seinfeld too, didn't it?). But the idea will never actually be borne out. Free bathrooms are too fickle. The map itself would require community input that is way less easier to obtain once those community members have empty bladders. It's all supposed to just live in your head, anyway. The heads of people who often find themselves in the position of having to pee and not knowing where to go to do so. I decided to pee before driving home from book club and found myself going back into the hotel that was adjacent to (connected to?) the bar we were at, down the plush stairway into a labyrinth of hallways on the basement level, with a free bathroom, right there, available to anyone who wants to walk right in. I filed it away, mentally, but, like, what are the chances that I'll find myself in this area of the city with this full of a bladder ever again? Not impossible, but unlikely. And so the file is shredded and I continue on in a world where bathrooms are elusive and every public pee feels like a quest.
