Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 89: Boober

Prompt: "A song about being late"

Selected by Boober

"Apologize"
Silverstein
Punk Goes Pop Volume Two, 2009

Oh man, off to a rocky start. I'm still so in the mindset of Monday/Thursday/Saturday blogging that I missed Tuesday, a song about a loser. I'm thinking a future prompt will be the writing of all the days I missed, compiled into one, like my Disney list.

When it comes to showing up on time, physically, I'm always on time. I give myself ample time to get somewhere, and I'll be early whenever I can over being late. So doesn't resonate with me.

Silverstein is pretty lit, and does a great cover. Idk where I stand on if it's ever too late to apologize or not. Makes for a catchy song though. Anyone who has wronged me, I've made my own peace with it and got my own closure, ya know, so I don't think it's too late to hear an apology, but I don't need one. And I think I'm pretty on point with apologizing to myself, so I'm not late with it usually...

And now all I'm thinking about is, do I owe anyone an apology recently. It's gonna bug me all day.

Oh—sorry for missing yesterday.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 87: Boober

Prompt: "'Two roads diverged in a wood and I / I took the road less traveled by / and this song has made all the difference.'"

Selected by Boober

"Wonderwall"
Oasis
(What's the Story) Morning Glory?, 1995

Okay PoYB fam.

I recently got passed over for a job opportunity by a real jabroni. Since then, I've been having a much much much busier time at work. I had been struggling with Day 68, where I left off, and I just couldn't even think of a person I don't like. Or was it a genre I don't like, idk, either way, I sat down to write multiple times and came up blank.

And then that turned into me working every single day for like a month, and yeah...

No excuses.

May was a difficult month, and June wasn't much better, but I'm here still, and I was reading your prompts, but doing a shit job of writing.

Anyway. Here's to me only missing a month or so of stuff. I can't say I completed a yearlong song challenge now, but I can say hopefully at the end of this year I completed about ten months, and that'll be pretty cool...

So here's "Wonderwall."

Side note, this guy Joe is a pretty solid dude. After about a week of missing prompts, he messaged me asking if things were okay. Maybe I'm in a sappy mood, idk, but I appreciated that more than he will ever know. Life gets tough sometimes, and it's okay to take a step back or focus on the things that really need focusing on... but it's nice to know that people care and are there for you when it matters.

Thanks for being a kind-hearted, open, caring group of people.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 67: Boober

Prompt: "Your favorite song from your least favorite genre"

Selected by Boober

"Somewhere with You"
Kenny Chesney
Hemingway's Whiskey, 2010

So I'm not a huge fan of country music. Been listening to a bit of Zach Bryan and T. Swift, but idk if they're considered country at this point.

This is the only song that I can think of from the country genre that I genuinely enjoy every time I hear it. I'm honestly a little worried I picked this for one of my favorite songs.

It reminds me of my brothers, Jeff and Kevin, and my unofficial brother, Bob. Hopefully at my funeral, y'all will have outlasted me, and you can sing this as I'm scattered to the wind as my business idea finally takes off and y'all can profit from it.

"Are you tired of spending too much money on a coffin when you have to plan a funeral? No good space at your local cemetery? Well, how about we launch you into the atmosphere?! Ashes in fireworks. Everyone loves fireworks. Why don't we really celebrate the end of a life this year? Put your cremated remains in a giant firework and 'go out with a bang'!"

Patent pending.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 66: Boober

Prompt: "A basic-ass song that's probably gonna end up on Obama's summer playlist at some point"

Selected by Boober

"Too Sweet"
Unheard EP, 2024

I'm imagining looking at Obama's playlist, and what he is thinking. What, are they all Beyoncé and other US hits? Which I think they would just pick for any former US president who's trying to stay relevant.

...I didn't know he made playlists every summer, or people listened to them. That man has been out of sight, out of mind for me.

Anyway, I just went and saw Hozier yesterday and got goosebumps for most of the songs. My two brothers and I in a sea of young women, singing this talented man's songs.

"Too Sweet" is already at the top of a bunch of lists, so I can safely assume this would end up on his summer playlist. Saturday night was the biggest show he's done in the states, so it was cool to be a part of that. My brother is a huge fan, and would talk about going and seeing him in these tiny standing room only venues, and now he's selling out the entire lawn in Camden.

Yes, Hozier is the man that does "Take Me to Church," and it's great, but before you talk smack, here are some of my favorites. Listen before you judge, thanks.

Always in my Top Five: "Would That I," "Work Song," "Shrike," "From Eden," "Cherry Wine." Pretty much the entire album Wasteland, Baby! deserves a listen. His newest album has some heaters on it, I just haven't given it a full listen yet, to let all the lyrics and stories in the songs and just everything sink in.

A lot of people can write some solid music, but this guy... it's poetry.

I enjoy the balance of my playlists—sometimes Hozier, sometimes As Blood Runs Black. It keeps me going. And occasionally some Taylor Swift and Creed.

Anyway, he did do "Take Me to Church," and the song absolutely crushed live.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 65: Boober

Prompt: "Your SUMMER SONG"

Selected by Boober

"Spotless"
Zach Bryan ft. the Lumineers
Zach Bryan, 2023

"I can't stop this, neither can you,
For once in my life I’m gonna see this through."

I've got a hopeful tune in my heart for the rest of this year. I tend to be a realistic-leaning pessimist, and I've been doing my best on being an optimist... it's just hard. I think my brain is kind of hardwired towards depression and sadness. I see the best in others, which is great, and I gotta remind myself to treat myself like I'd treat others.

I've been wrapped up in work lately, and I hate it. It's been overwhelming. 33 and my knees shouldn't feel like this.

I'm a firm believer in preaching things into existence. If you're constantly saying bad things are gonna happen, I think they will.

So here is to y'all. And having a great summer. Make it the best one you can. It doesn't have to be epic. Just make sure you look back and think... that was good enough for me.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 64: Boober

Prompt: "A song that reminds you of an ex"

Selected by Boober

"Cherry Wine"
Hozier
Hozier, 2016

I was married for a hot minute. Married this woman I had impregnated at nineteen. I tried to be a family man. Idk, clearly it didn't pan out.

I have a lot of feelings about my marriage.

I'm not jaded by the whole experience, so that's pretty neat. But I go from feeling sadness to anger to taking a deep breathe and realizing I'm a free man who doesn't have to be in something so wrong for me.

It's sad to lose a piece of you. I get angered as I still learn things years later that have happened that I should've realized.

And then I just end up going, ya know what Boober, I'd rather be here now, than in the thick of it with someone who treated you like shit.

Not saying give up on your marriages. Give it your all. Be the best version of yourself so you can be a great partner for whoever you might be with. But at the end of the take, you always come first, and just remember that, PoYBers.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 63: Boober

Prompt: "A song that's like 'boom, clap, boom boom clap'"

Selected by Boober

OutKast
Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, 2003

So I was just at four weddings this past October, and is this an auto-include on your wedding playlists? I feel like it just checks too many boxes to not be. It's catchy, fun, danceable.

Maybe it's just my generation, and some young whipper snapper might say "Well Boober, this song blows." Like idk how "Sweet Caroline" got into all these wedding playlists, so why not this one?

Okay, so you're getting married—what is one song y'all feel like has to be on your playlist? Sorry if it's "Sweet Caroline."

I was just at a wedding that did all like... flamenco and salsa music. Wasn't a fan. I got up for one dance, and the song didn't end for 30 minutes. That isn't an exaggeration. I thought, okay, it's about to end, I can go grab a drink... and it wouldn't end. Fun for dancing, but not so much for a wedding party.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 62: Boober

Prompt: "A song with an adverb and a preposition in the title"

Selected by Boober

"Down on the Corner"
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Willy and the Poor Boys, 1969

Lack of inspiration lately.

I'm four words in and thinking, damn, I really have to keep writing.

These are my least favorite prompts I think. I enjoy some direction, and this doesn't give me much in terms of, ya know... direction.

So I just downloaded Diablo. It was gifted to me by my brother. The classes I can be:
  • Sorcerer
  • Necromancer
  • Barbarian
  • Druid
  • Rogue
My brothers are everything except a Rogue, and I'm told Rogue is the worst of all the classes this go-around, and that it's not my play style at all. It's very micro-managing shit, and I hate that. I mean, in person, fine, but on a game, it's too much.

Give me your votes on what I should build. Thanks PoYB.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 61: Boober

Prompt: "A song that passes the Bechdel Test"

Selected by Boober

"Dancing Queen"
ABBA
Arrival, 1976

I know this is the Yearlong Song Challenge, but I kind of messed up, and was looking for movies that passed the test.

Then I got sucked into Bee Movie.

And, well... it passed the test. However you wanna dice it—females talking about bees, female bees talking about honey.

None of this has to do with ABBA, one of my favorite bands. But I'm hoping at the very least you guys will watch a new movie. Bee Movie.

If you want a fast way to watch a solid movie, there is a video on YouTube where every time they say the word "bee," the movie is sped up. It's about six minutes long.

You'll get the gist of it pretty quickly.

Bees.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 60: Boober

Prompt: "A pretty okay song that is used for the opening credits of an AMAZING television show"

Selected by Boober

"Woke Up This Morning"
Alabama 3
Exile on Coldharbour Lane, 1997

The only reason I like this song is because of the show. It brings back so many memories when I hear it. I think without the show, I wouldn't give a shit about it. But now I hear it, and I see the opening sequence and the water tower and all of it at all the right spots. The song by all means isn't that great, but the show? 9/10.

I could never be in the mafia or organized crime. Ignore my praise of 9/11 in the previous post, it's just because I hate NY. Oh shit, maybe I would fit in well with Tony's crew: Fuck NYC.

I'd like to think I'd be a great mafia guy until... well, until I get murdered. That's why I'd never do it. The thrill of living that life, idk, it has some appeal. Until I remember it means certain death.

But now, in this moment, in thinking we are all gonna die anyway... and it's not like we have a say when we die...

Okay I lied. I might be convinced. If it was the '60s-'80s, I would for sure be in the mafia. Now, too many cameras and stuff.

If y'all wanna start our own mafia, maybe one that goes bowling and goes to Applebee's after, I think maybe I'd be more comfortable committing to that kind of crime.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 59: Boober

Prompt: "A great song used for the opening credits of a TV show that is, like, totally fine"

Selected by Boober

"Reading Rainbow"
Tina Fabrique
Theme from Reading Rainbow, 1983

Not sure if this considered opening credits or a theme song

Reading rainbow

Iiiiiiiiii can go anywhereeeee

I think I mentioned somewhere in almost 60 prompts that I enjoy reading but lately have started like... 5 books that are started and somewhere around the midway mark.

I'm committing right here right now to finish one of these books

Someone keep me honest somewhere in the 69-70 prompt ask if I finished any of these books.

I'm furthest through meditations so my goal is to finish that. And than my sisters book...

And go...

I'll start after this pacer game is  over... maybe

Only watching this game because I fucking hate New York.

The Knicks fucking suck and are not making it all the way. I've got money they aren't beating the pacers...

I saw a video of a bunch of Knicks fans talking shit on Philly and Embiid and I thought wow... Okay I understand 9/11

Round 2 baby

Fuck these nerds and there shitty sports teams…

Okay maybe that's a little extreme

Sike fuck New York

GO BIRDS

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 58: Boober

Prompt: "Your favorite Nickelback song"

Selected by Boober

"Savin' Me"
Nickelback
All the Right Reasons, 2005

I'm doing my own little guest spot here. Someone who loves Nickelback as much as I do. Not number-one fans or anything, but we both belt out all the Nickelback songs when they come on.

Boober: "How You Remind Me" or "Far Away"?

H: "Far Away," but I'm not like the regular crowd. [Boober note: Real poser answer here.]

Boober: Give me your favorite Nickelback song, and at least three reason why it's better than the rest.

H: "Savin' Me." The game is in OT, I can't do that rn.

Boober: Wut, why, you owe me.

H: Just scored in OT

Boober: Okay... so the game's over...?

H: Just now, give me a minute...

[infinity later, a phone call:]

H: Why do I have to text this?

Boober: [explains the YSC and mentioning how he didn't want H to be swayed and just wanted an answer instead of the runaround.]

H: I'll send a message later.

[Later:]

H: "Savin' Me." This song in particular is my favorite Nickleback song for several reasons. The song came out in 2006, and that time in my life was a very difficult time for me. I was around thirteen or fourteen years old. I dealt with bullying in and outta school, my parents divorced, and I lived with my father at the time, who was a heavy alcoholic. Times weren't the best, and I was at one of at my all-time lows. I wanted to be gone and disappear from everything around me. All I wanted was to feel like I mattered to someone.

The lyrics "And say it for me, say it to me / And I'll leave this life behind me / Say it if it's worth savin' me" was how I felt in that time. I would listen to this song all the time, just hoping maybe I would get the sign from somebody that I truly mattered. At one time in that year, I ended up opening up to someone, and was saved by everything that was said and all the actions from that moment, and it made me realize I'm more important to people than I truly ever realized. So from that year on, this song has always been an all-time favorite that I throw on from time to time to just remind myself of that time and how far I've come in life.

Is that ok?

Boober: I just need 100 words pal, I'm sure it's wonderful, I'll read it later.

Glad you realized you're important. đź–¤

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 57: Boober

Prompt: "A song about a shark (but yo, I swear to god, motherfucker, if you pick THAT one, I'm gonna be fucking pissed)"

Selected by Boober

"Sharks in Your Mouth"
I Killed the Prom Queen
Music for the Recently Deceased, 2006

So I think if I didn't mention it, no would even know, that this isn't a song about a shark. It's screamo/metal, maybe you just missed it... (Don't look up the lyrics) Totally a song about sharks...

This song came to mind, obviously for the title. I've been listening to this song since 2007. It's been on a playlist of mine going on almost 20 years now.

I have very vivid memories of walking between classes in high school with the opening drums of this blasting out of my headphones. Feeling like the coolest fucking kid in school. It's my life, I'm the main character, right...? Everyone wanted to know about this Australian metal band and how edgy and cool I was...

Hint hint: I was pretty fucking cool.

I wonder if people out there don't feel like the main character in their own lives. I try to keep myself grounded, and realize that we all have complex lives and emotions, and just because I'm at home right now in my apartment doesn't mean everyone else's lives are on pause.

That would be a sad life, huh.

But I had this feeling of: wouldn't it be crazy if I was the main character? Like a real life Truman Show.

Having déjà vu here: Has there been a post about The Truman Show? Someone mentioning it before... I'll feel dumb if it was just me and I'm just full circle talking to myself...

I have the weirdest feeling I was watching The Truman Show this year because of the blog.

Anyway, if you haven't watched it, it's basically a guy who doesn't know that he's the main character of a TV show, and he gradually figures out his whole life is basically a joke / planned. Solid movie.

If y'all are side characters in my life, and I'm being recorded, you would tell me, right?

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 56: Boober

Prompt: "A song with a length that is between 3:17 and 3:22 (inclusive bound)"

Selected by Boober

"Music Sounds Better with You"
NEIL FRANCES
Stay Strong Play Long EP, 2021

I've been going to these kink fashion show / underground events the past year or so now. Got introduced to the whole sex club life and went to one of those with one of my best friends. Just went on a D&D nude beach trip last summer.

I'm going on four hours of sleep coming back from one of those parties last night, and it's funny how just from going to some different events you start seeing familiar faces and getting to know people.

I feel like the sex club / swinging scene gets a lot of hate. I've met some pretty cool people. Photographers, bakers, artists, businessmen, designers, straight, gay, lesbian, trans couples.

There is something nice about being in a place surrounded by people who aren't judgmental.

I've been going lately just as like a thing to do. New experiences, ya know. Sex club life isn't really my scene, but after going, I see the appeal. If that's your cup of tea, power to you.

And honestly, I still prefer a beach where everyone has clothes on, but only because I associate my beach time with family. Also, I furiously sprayed my dick and balls like 1000 times that day because I thought ain't no way I'm getting this lil guy burnt. Also, having a lot of tattoos, I'm usually lotioning up a lot anyway, so the added worry of my genitals was annoying. And the sand... gets everywhere.

It was still a great time. High-fiving and having your wangs touch with your bros as you jump over a wave into the ocean: 10/10.

This song wasn't on last night, but it made me think of the people I was dancing with. Half of the D&D group was at this party because our mutual friend bartends, there so it's always fun dancing and having drinks with your friends and then looking over and they're just bent over a table getting spanked.

I was talking some trash on electronic music in an earlier post, but I was thinking last night in this warehouse... okay, the bass is giving me a splitting headache six hours later, but I can appreciate how you could just dance with your friends or strangers to this for a few hours and just lose track of time.

I guess there's a time and a place for every kind of music, huh.

I dedicate this song to my last night's crush that had me paddle her ass after we danced and she handed me a drink. The vision of her looking back at me... the eyes and the ass will be etched in my mind.

Gone with the wind now.

C'est la vie.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 55: Boober

Prompt: "A good song to play on Cinco de Mayo"

Selected by Boober

"Buenas Tardes Amigo"
Chocolate and Cheese, 1994

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "Fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El DĂa de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). It originated with Mexican-American communities in the American West as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War, and today the date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is celebrated on September 16.

I figured I knew very little about the holiday so I'd try and find out more about it. Ween mentions Cinco de Mayo in the first verse, so probably a good song for the prompt. Very fitting.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 54: Boober

Prompt: "A song that frightens you"

Selected by Boober

"Halloween Theme — Main Title"
John Carpenter
Halloween (score), 1978

I've never been a fan of scary movies. Maybe it's because growing up, our family watched Disney. Cartoons, love stories, families. Man, I still tear up watching and singing along to probably 90% of the Disney movies I watch. Sci-fi, history, documentaries, dramas, mysteries, all fine in my book.

Jump-scary horror movies don't do it for me, slasher films and Saw-like movies that just try and push you to the edge. The world is already a scary enough place. Why would anyone wanna spend free time watching a scary movie? If it's a new scary movie, I'll give it a shot, but it's not something I'll go back and want to watch over and over.

The piano in the beginning of Halloween gets me every time.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 53: Boober

Prompt: "A song that at least partially takes place on a roof"

Selected by Boober

"Hero"
Chad Kroeger ft. Josey Scott
Music from and Inspired by Spider-Man, 2002

Spider-Man, Spider-Man
Does whatever a Spider... Man... can

Idk if everyone reads these, but I'd love to know everyone's favorite superhero character. I'll leave mine up for y'all to guess. My pick is in the Marvel universe. It's not Spider-Man, this song just got me thinking about comics.

Would I want a superpower if I was given the option? Idk if I would take it. If I had powers, it would mean that others would have powers too, and I'd worry too much about using mine for good.

Man, my mind is all over the place right now.

Hooray Nickelback and Spider-Man and superheroes.

(I'd take immortality if I could. I'd like to witness the history of mankind. That would be pretty neat.)

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 52: Boober

Prompt: "A song performed by someone who isn't necessarily known as a musician first"

Selected by Boober

"Shallow"
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
A Star Is Born (soundtrack), 2018

So Lady Gaga is definitely a musician, but Mr. Pretty Boy... Hangover extraordinaire has some PIPES. Granted, he probably got a year or two of musical training for his role in this movie but... he nailed it.

I think if you watched this movie and didn't know anything about him, you wouldn't know he wasn't a musician. This one's actually on my liked songs playlist on Spotify, and I was going over this prompt like 1000 times trying to find a song and this came on during my ride home, and I'm happy it did.

Feel free to turn it off before Gaga sings to really feel the non musician part of this prompt... but the entire song is solid.

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 51: Boober

Prompt: "Your favorite Disney song"

Selected by Boober

"The Hula Song"
Timon (voiced by Nathan Lane) ft. Pumba (voiced by Ernie Sabella)
from The Lion King, 1994

Okay, so, 51 prompts in, and y'all learn I'm a huge Disney nerd. Maybe I'm not the kind of guy who takes weeklong extravagant vacations to Disney World, but instead that type that spends the week watching someone's house/dogs.

I know too many words to too many Disney songs. I'm gonna do a list of favorite songs from all the Disney movies I like.

I think we have over 800 Disney movies. I have a list from one to 800 online in order of when they came out, so I'm gonna go over the ones I like / actually know. There are a lot of random Disney movies that no one has ever heard of, so I'm not gonna go find a song from those movies.

I already know The Lion King, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Mulan, Moana, Tangled. The 1990-2010 era is too hard, so many heaters. I'll try and include all the classics.
  • Snow White — "Heigh-Ho"
  • Pinocchio — "When You Wish upon a Star"
  • Fantasia — "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"!
  • The Reluctant Dragon — No clue
  • Dumbo — "Pink Elephants on Parade"
  • Bambi — "Exploring"
  • Cinderella — "Little Dressmakers Song," "The Mice Song"
  • Alice in Wonderland — "The Mad Tea Party"
  • Robin Hood — "Oo-De-Lally"!
  • Peter Pan — I hate Peter Pan. I added this because maybe it's someone's favorite movie, and I didn't wanna leave it out in case I was missing anything, but listening to this soundtrack... ass.
  • Lady and the Tramp — "Siamese Cat Song"
  • Sleeping Beauty — finale... Idk what it's called, it sounds like a song you would hear in a carousel... "I know you, you walked with me once upon a dream..."
  • Swiss Family Robinson — what the hell is even this
  • 101 Dalmatians — "Cruella de Vil"
  • The Sword and the Stone — no song, just a solid '60s movie…
  • Mary Poppins — "Supercalifragilistic—"..... you know what I’m trying to spell
  • The Jungle Book — "I Wan'na Be like You"!
  • The Aristocats — "Ev'rybody Wants to Be a Cat"!
  • Winnie the Pooh — Winnie the Pooh theme song
  • The Fox and the Hound — "Best of Friends"
  • Oliver and Company — "Why Should I Worry?"!
  • The Little Mermaid — "Part of Your World" > "Kiss the Girl" > "Under the Sea"
In the '50s, '60s, and '70s, there was a lot of skips. So from The Little Mermaid on, I'm not gonna put the movies in the chronologic order they were released. Too many garbage movies no one has ever heard of.

Okay, stretch break over.
  • Beauty and the Beast — "Belle" > "Beauty and the Beast" > "Be Our Guest" > "Something There." "Belle" is the song I have more fun singing, then "Be Our Guest." Angela Lansbury in "Beauty and the Beast" makes me tear up every time though. First tough one I've had all night...
  • Aladdin — "A Whole New World" > "Friend like Me" > "Prince Ali"
  • Homeward Bound — whatever song is playing when Shadow limps over the hill
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas — "What's This?"
  • The Lion King — This one is impossible. My favorite movie of all time. The tracklist
    • "Circle of Life," certified banger
    • "I Just Can’t Wait to Be King," 10/10
    • "Be Prepared," flashback to my "Hellfire" post. I love a good villain.
    • "Hakuna Matata," I'll do Timon, Pumba, and Simba as parts in karaoke
    • "Can You Feel The Love Tonight," let me reprise each character from the previous song and Nala.
    • "This Land"
    • "...To Die For"
    • "Under the Stars"
    • "King of Pride Rock"
    • Then hit me with all the Elton John covers... shit, Elton and Phil Collins really did something for Disney in '90s/2000s
  • Goofy Movie — "I 2 I"
  • Pocahontas — "Colors of the Wind" > "Just Around the Riverbend" > "Savages"
  • Toy Story — "You've Got a Friend in Me"
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame — "Out There" > "Hellfire"
  • Hercules — "Go the Distance," Michael Bolton > anything else
  • Mulan — "I'll Make a Man Out of You"
  • A Bug's Life — just putting this because it's a good movie.
  • Tarzan — Damn this is tough... "Two Worlds," "You'll Be in My Heart," "Strangers like Me," how can you even pick? Thank you, Phil, for this masterpiece.
  • Toy Story 2 — "Woody's Roundup"
  • Dinosaur — this is here because we hit the year 2000 on the list, and this is a solid movie. Lots of haters, but I'll vouch for this one, especially if you have a young kid who likes dinosaurs.
  • The Emperor's New Groove — No song. Score is good, but not a great soundtrack. Solid movie, 10/10 eh pacha
  • O Brother, Where Art Thou? — "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" > "I'll Fly Away"
  • Monsters Inc. — "If I Didn't Have You," watch this movie if you haven't. You're missing out.
  • Lilo & Stitch — This is another tough one... "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride," obviously all the Elvis stuff in this movie is awesome, but this song takes it for me.
  • Spirited Away — No songs here for right now, but I didn't know this was Disney. My son and I have been watching some Studio Ghibli, and he has been loving it. Solid movie.
  • Finding Nemo — "Somewhere Beyond the Sea"
  • Pirates of the Caribbean — the theme song
  • Brother Bear — "On My Way," just watched this with my three-year-old nephew today. Let me tell you, it was lost on him how good of a movie this is. Kids these days are spoiled.
  • Home on the Range — "Yodel-Adle-Eedle-Idle-Oo"
  • The Incredibles — Another movie without any songs
  • Ratatouille — Nothing needs to be said. Stop what you're doing, and go watch this movie.
  • Tangled — "I've Got a Dream"
  • The Muppet Movie — "Rainbow Connection"
  • Brave — "Touch the Sky" > "Into the Open Air"
Somewhere above I missed: Cars, Narnia, Wall-E, Bolt, Up, Remember the Titans, sequels to the Pirates movies, and some other sequels. Toy Story sequels are all movies I would recommend to someone looking for movies to watch.

Some more missing ones: Wreck-It Ralph, all the Marvel movies, Monsters University, Big Hero 6. Just rewatched Big Hero 6... I kind of wanna cry again. Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, Zootopia, and all the new Star Wars movies.
  • Frozen — "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" > "In Summer" > "Let It Go"
  • Moana — Finally, another hard one. "Where You Are" > "How Far I'll Go" > "You're Welcome." This was a movie that came out as my kids were a little older that I was excited to see. Story and music in this brought me back to being a child watching Disney movies. 10/10
  • Coco — "Remember Me"
  • Soul — "Born to Play"
  • Encanto — "The Family Madrigal" > "We Don't Talk About Bruno" > "Surface Pressure"
I just watched Wish with my nephew this weekend, and I don't remember any songs that stuck out. Wish would probably be like #850.

Also I didn't include the songs from remakes. The new Lion King, Aladdin, Little Mermaid. Not really wasting my time listening to songs that were already done well.

You would think I'd have a favorite after writing all of this, but it's been a ploy. I was thinking after listening to all the Disney movies I'd have narrowed it down...

I'm somewhere between: "Be Prepared" and "Hanuka Matata" from The Lion King; "Belle" from Beauty and the Beast; "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid; "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan.

Ok.

I've actually decided.

The Lion King is my favorite movie. And this song I know all the words to and always puts a smile on my face.

"What do you want me to do, dress in drag and do the hula?!"

"LUAU!"

Yearlong Song Challenge, Day 50: Boober

Prompt: "A song with literally the sound of at least one animal making its animal noise"

Selected by Boober

"The Perfect Kiss"
New Order
Low-Life, 1985

So I'm not gonna tell anyone where the animal noises are, y'all just have to listen. Or wait until the end of this writing.

If anyone read my Day 42 post, I've been involved with an almost two-year-long D&D campaign. I'm a Gnome Druid. A little over three feet tall, just over 100 years old, and I'm a very optimistic/introverted hermit like character who is testing the waters outside of his secluded life.

Some characters like to be brash and in your face. My character, Fforg, is a Small Lives Matter kind of guy. Just because you're tiny doesn't mean you don't hold value.

He tends to be the kind of person that follows and makes sure everyone is okay. He gives all of his money away after each quest, and he doesn't really care about the group's well-being as long as everyone is safe. He won't follow anyone into battle just to fight.

He has a moral compass and it points true north.

Judging by his name, you might have a guess. Fforg can turn into a panther, bear, owl, rat, and, you guessed it, a frog. You might hear some croaking of frogs toward the three-minute mark if I'm not mistaken. If I am, oh well. It's a good song and you got to read about a character I play in a fantasy game.
