This gym doesn't have "influencers" as far as I can tell. Well, not at 5 AM anyway. I guess that's not really the "influencer lifestyle," waking up that early. I hate the idea of creating strawmen in my head. Do influencers actually exist? In large numbers? In the way that the internet wants us to believe? The only contact I'd ever have with influencers at the gym are, like, videos on Reddit that are designed to make influencers seem stupid, e.g. here's a young woman trying to tape her workout for her dumb Instagram account a grizzly old dude stands in front of her camera on purpose because he's as pissed off about it as you, the audience, are. I'm all haughty about the internet not influencing ME but then I scroll through Reddit and get influenced by a couple videos about influencers. It's, like, inescapable, the act of being made a chump by propaganda, big and small. I caught someone taking a selfie of themselves after beasting her way through like 20 pull-ups, and I don't blame her. It was impressive. I'd rather be influenced into getting into the gym early every morning to work on my own pull-ups and feel good about it than being influenced into seeing the world as stupid and lame and upsetting.
Don't wanna be that guy, every single second I'm alive, I'm alive, I don't understand why.
