1. Were you happy with the reviews that were published? How do you feel about your week as Record Club captain?
The reviews made sense to me in the context of what other friends said to me about the album. I felt happy to bring a new artist to the fold that others haven't heard of.
2. How was the variety of opinions? A wide range, kinda samey, or somewhere in the middle?
Pretty much the same—overall, people liked the record, no one really seemed to think it held together as an album, but this album had something for everyone to like.
3. Were there any differing opinions that made you view the album in a different light?
I didn't focus on "Chance Creek" when I first listened, but Joe mentioning it also helped me see that it's a real keeper, a song I know I'll now listen to many more times. I hadn't really thought about the live element of the album, and Nate mentioning that made it clear to me I'd probably get obsessed with this band if I saw them. I can't tell what I think about the superfan commenting guy Sunny brought up—is he creepy? Is he right?
4. Was there anything about this album or this artist that you wished that people would've written about more?
No one wrote about "Imaginary People" as a song (including me), but to me that's the best song on the album.
5. How do you feel about your album choice now that the week is over? A success? Any regrets?
No regrets, everything's great, would choose again ten times out of ten.
6. Any other takeaways from the reviews? Or from this experience in general?
I thought the reviews would on the whole be slightly more positive, but they weren't negative either. I was happy that it somewhat improved Joe's terrible week.
7. What is an improvement that Record Club can make that would enhance everyone's experience, either as a captain or as a listener/writer?
I tried to get more friends to write for this one, and four people said they would and no one came through. Maybe more contests like the one we had in March? I feel like I got a small dose of what our EiC feels all the time (people promising to write and then not doing it). Maybe we should crowdfund and pay people $1 to write reviews? Maybe we should recruit big corporations to advertise on PoYB and pay writers more than $1? I think choosing Pitchfork and Spotify and Taylor Swift to be the lead advertisers would make Joe very happy, as these are all perfect ambassadors for what PoYB represents, and for what Joe loves.
