Imaginary Friends, Nate

On an individual, song-by-song level, much of the time spent with Imaginary People is a soft delight of pleasant and competent Americana, as if the Both decided to keep going and make records inspired by Lucinda Williams. None of it hangs together as an album, and taking the songs as a whole leaves the impression of a batch of tunes that never reach momentum, a project that hums but never gets off the ground. I can fully understand how these songs performed live would make a fan. Context is everything, and the album can't provide one on its own.
