It's Not Too Late: YSC, Day 101: Brianna

Prompt: "A song that feels specifically written for you"

Selected by Brianna

"This River Is Wild"

"Kinda personal, innit?"

This was Shane's (kinda British, no?) response when I told him about today's prompt. To him, a song that feels so special that it's created for your purpose is special enough to keep to yourself. He's not really a sharer, a hard nut to crack if you don't know him, so I get it.

His response did get me thinking about the nature of the YSC, however. I don't always read everyone's response to each prompt depending on the day and time, but when I do, I always leave a little inspired, maybe a little humbled, definitely feeling a little more connected to the world. It's something I've really grown to appreciate about this experience, this sharing of ourselves.

Maybe for me it's a little different. Most of you fellow YSCers, I don't know outside of your connection to my brother and in some cases, even that is unknown to me. But after these 100 days, I feel like I do know you on some level: we've shared similar songs or have shared similar experiences, have same feelings about the state of the world, at the very minimum we have all agreed to participate in this crazy challenge and have hung in there long enough to have accomplished something pretty cool.

No matter where our similarities, or differences, may lie, I just wanted to take a moment of gratitude for being a part of this thing. Thank you to all YSCers out there—for sharing yourself and your music with me. I'm honored to be here with you.

My choice today is purely about the scratch this song had always given me, in the exact part of my musical brain that itches the most. I hope it scratches yours too.

It is now officially time to get Shane to write on the blog.
