Prompt: "A song that reminds you of the leaves changing colors"
Selected by Fisher
"America"
Simon & Garfunkel
Bookends, 1968
I would like to thank the Bernie '16 campaign for introducing me to this song. There isn't really anything to suggest fall in these lyrics, but as I paint the narrative in my mind, it's inescapably autumnal. A hitchhiker taking in the scenery over 1,000+ miles. I don't want dead trees, I don't want an oppressive sun. I see flannel jackets and jeans. I see the leaves kick up as their Greyhound bus drives by. Beautiful song.
