Album of the Week: Inside Out

Pretend there is an introduction here. Maybe you'd chuckle a little bit as you read whatever pithy comment I add in this space. More likely, you'll just skip it anyway. No worries either way. Scroll down and do what you came here to do in the first place—check out the new RC Album of the Week.

PICKED BY SEAN E.

SEAN'S COMMENTS: "I'm currently rewatching Shameless and while googling random things about the show I found out that Emmy Rossum (who plays Fiona) released an album that only sold 28k copies. I now want to know if it is remotely good. Let's go on this journey together."

PRONOUNS: she/her/hers

ABOUT: Most of the Wikipedia biography is about the Emmy Rossum regarding her acting, but I'll try to touch on some of her musical biography in the next few sentences as best I can. Emmanuelle Grey Rossum was born on September 12, 1986, in New York City. She joined the Metropolitan Opera Children's Chorus at the age of seven. That led to roles in operas, which then led to an interest in acting. Her first role was on the soap opera As the World Turns in 1997. She is the first RC artist (as far as I can recall) who has starred in a Disney Channel Original Movie (Genius, 1999). Two years after this album was released, she landed a role in the Showtime series Shameless, which ran for eleven seasons (Emmy starred in the first nine seasons, second-billed to William H. Macy). The success in this series renewed interest in her music career, as evidenced by the fact that this album was chosen for Record Club. She is married to Sam Esmail.

DISCOGRAPHY: This is Rossum's only LP of original material. There was a covers album in 2013 called Sentimental Journey. There was also a Christmas EP one month after Inside Out, called Carol of the Bells.

ADDITIONAL INFO

READING SOME SHIT: an archived RadioFree.com interview from 2007

WATCHING SOME SHIT: some clips of Rossum in Shameless (hey, looks like the dude from The Bear is in this show too)

PREVIOUSLY ON RECORD CLUB: There have been plenty of actors/musicians that have walked these hallowed RC halls, so let's not rehash that (else we awaken various demons). Let's instead mention two random ass connections that I'm thinking about now. First: Inside Out is also a Pixar film, and that dude from Charly Bliss voiced the little kid from The Incredibles. Second: another main character in Shameless is Kev, played by Steve Howey, who, as we ALL know, also starred in Reba with Reba McEntire. Egg whites, plain wheat toast, an assortment of fruit, you're gonna love this.
