MIDNIGHTS REVIEW FROM A STILL-ARDENT TAY FAN WHO WOULD JOYFULLY ATTEND THE TAYTOUR
This thing is a damn snooze! All sleepy autotune and bleep bloops and soft ahhhhhhhhhhs. Is that slapping/ticking noise a drum machine (IDK how music is made)? Too much bleep bloop! Too much ticking! Immense, granular, lyrical focus on what appears to be an even more shallow and undeveloped chasm of an inner world! It's great to play while studying because it's like listening to nothing. Tay should take 5-10 years off and focus on something other than herself and return with a back-to-her-roots country album. Collab with Tyler Childers / Zach Bryan / Jason Isbell and give us a banjo, and take like one finger off the enormous PRODUCTION button she's slamming down at all times.
If you must: "You're on Your Own, Kid" and "Would've, Could've, Should've" tugged my heartstrings. "Lavender Haze" is as close as we get to a legitimate bop. I like "Labyrinth" because it's got church bells and a version of the bleep bloop that I like and it's about HOPE!! But IDK if anyone else would like that one.
